In this one time class, I'll lead the students step by step through a mixed media process of drawing and painting to create a bird that does not exist. We'll base it on realistic parts of a bird & even name the type of bird we create!
Class experience
No prior drawing or painting experience needed because I'll be leading each child step-by-step through each part of our drawing and painting project. We'll have a little "bird talk" as we introduce ourselves to see if any of the children have a favorite type of bird. Then I'll show them some of my bird paintings and explain that underneath all the paint is a drawing and that I'll be walking them through the steps of how to draw and paint a bird. We'll discuss the parts of a bird as we draw...
Students will learn the basic parts of a bird and specific options to consider as they create their own bird painting. They will also learn a mixed media process of using pencils, oil pastels and watercolor paints and the reasons these products work well together for our project.

There will be no formal assessment; however, we will take the time to show each other our artwork several times throughout the class to celebrate and encourage each other.Grades Offered
1 file available upon enrollmentpencil, eraser, sharpener 9" x 12" Watercolor Paper (or similar size) A set of Watercolor Paints (just a simple set of 12 or 24 colors A few Watercolor Paint Brushes in different sizes Oil Pastels in a variety of colors (be sure they are not the type that can be blended with water--it would say it on the package if it is) Water in an open cup, can or jar Paper Towels Optional Substitution: (If your child does not already have a set of oil pastels, crayons could be used instead.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
