Class Experience

In this self paced 4 week course students will learn how to successfully draw a girl in the anime style with step by step instructions. We will go over tips and tricks to achieve an authentic anime style drawing. The course will be broken down into different sections such as head, body, clothes and shading/colouring. Students will be able to create their own anime girl or use things from anime characters they already know and love!

My teaching style is very enthusiastic and I like to encourage my students by praising what they are doing well. I will also sensitively point out where there is room for improvement if they request this. The best way to learn is through doing and so my lesson will be very interactive and engaging. The students will need a pencil, some plain paper, an eraser, sharpener and coloured pens or pencils, including the colour black. No required experience or knowledge is needed for this class. Just a joy and curious attitude about art and how to draw!

*This is a self paced class. Each lesson will be delivered via a prerecorded video that will be uploaded into the classroom. Video time may vary but the work time for students will be around an hour long. Learners will then upload a photo of their art work that they complete each week in the classroom. This way I can check for proper understanding of the techniques and concepts, as well as give feedback to the students. They may share with me privately or publicly in the classroom tab.

Why choose Self Paced?
- Self Paced are great for students who may live in different time zones (Teacher Harriet lives in London UK)
- They are an excellent choice for families who have busy schedules, or cant commit to a specific date or time
- Students can work at their own pace. Videos can be paused and rewatched at any time

Please note: this is the same material used for the live classes 'Lets Draw an Anime Girl' and 'Learn to Draw an Anime Girl Body and Customise With Different Clothing Styles!'.

Syllabus

4 Lessons
over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Anime History and Drawing the Face
I will give a brief introduction to anime and its history before starting the tutorial and this will be a great opportunity to get the students talking about what they do or don't know about anime and manga in the classroom discussion. Starting with the shape of the face, we will then go over how to map out where all the features will go and how to draw the eyes, nose, mouth and hair in an easy and achievable way. We will go over different hair styles you could add to future drawings.
Lesson 2:
Colour, Shading and Inking
Students will colour in their anime face and be taught about different shading techniques and tips using different mediums such as markers and pencils. Students will also be taught how to 'ink' their drawings successfully and other ways we can effectively shade and colour in our anime girl face. This will include tutorials and explanations on gradient, highlights and shadows.
Lesson 3:
Anime Body Drawing
Students will learn how to draw an anime girl style human body with the correct proportions with step by step instructions. We will go over tips and tricks to map out the body so that we get all the proportions correct for our anime girl. Then we will go over a simple but effective way to draw in her body. I will show different poses for her and we will draw a variety of different bodies in different positions.
Lesson 4:
Clothes, Colour and Customisation
Now students we will learn how to add clothing to our anime bodies. I will go through a different selection of clothes that we can draw. Students are also encouraged to customise them as they wish and become anime fashion designers! We will then colour in our anime girls using any medium we like - crayons, pencils, pens or paints!

Hello! My name is Harriet Horner and I am from London in the UK. I teach creative classes, including interesting and dynamic art classes, along with art history classes. They including a lot of making and creating from the students side and most importantly they are very fun!

I have a bachelors degree in Fine Art from University of the Arts London and have worked with the acclaimed artist Anish Kapoor for over 3 years. I also have my own art studio and have exhibited my art work around London and in the Venice Biennale! As well as my colourful art background I have also obtained a TEFL and have been teaching English online to foreign students from the ages of 5 - 12. I love it! But I cant wait to combine my love of art with my love of teaching and believe that my enthusiasm and knowledge in the subject will bring a great learning experience to my students.

I believe the best way to learn is through doing so I always encourage my students to get involved, get stuck in and trust in the process! I love to interact with my students and get to know them in the lessons. I am an encouraging, enthusiastic and patient teacher who will give my students the tools they need to let their creativity flow and positive reinforcement to help boost their confidence in their own creative skillset.
