Celebrate Around the World will explore different countries with a focus on celebrations and December. Students will be asked to research several countries and compile information in their very own online book, which will be presented to the class on the last day. We will be reading selections and stories that highlight traditions and culture, and comparing and contrasting with life in the United States. Particular attention will be paid to the tone and respect that is afforded to other cultures, and the ways in which we discuss differences. Students will be encouraged to use any knowledge they have from their own families, and will be welcome to include a section in their own books to share with the class. Students will be working independently to complete in-class online assignments, however students will have ample class time to share and collaborate with their peers. Daily in-class assignments will include the use of online tools - such as Kahoot.com - to review material. Each class will consist of an opportunity to read, write, and utilize technology. Homework will consist of finishing class activities before the start of the next class, which would be - at most - one hour of homework time per class.
