Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University Bloomington
Hello! Nihao你好! My name is Chen. I’m originally from China and I am a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese. I have a Masters of Science in Elementary Education (Early Childhood Education track) from Indiana University Bloomington and got my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education in China earlier before I moved to the US. I am now pursuing my second Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction.
I have been teaching for 12 years in the US in a variety of school settings. I was a Pre-K lead teacher teaching immersion Mandarin Chinese along with IB(International Baccalaureate) PYP (Primary Years Programme) at an International School in Indiana for 5 years. I have taught Pre-K at a preschool in Indiana and taught Pre-K - Second Grade students Mandarin Chinese at a Chinese Language School in Tennessee. I started my online teaching journey teaching Mandarin online for over three years.
I have experience working with a wide range of students in terms of age, Mandarin Chinese proficiency, and individual academic needs.
I love teaching! My teaching philosophy is providing kids with fun, engaging, open-ended, process-oriented activities that value PLAY as the method of learning. My goal is to provide a comfortable yet stimulating environment for lifelong learners. Recognizing that every kid is special and has different learning styles, I will implement various methods and differentiate my class content, process and instruction to meet individual needs. I will provide young kids play-based, inquiry-based and hands-on learning opportunities to explore the language.
Please don’t hesitate to send me a message if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you in the classroom soon!
