Class Experience

My son may join me as a member of this class some weeks so that I can use him as an example. I am a family consultant with an Autism Waiver provider in Maryland and have worked with students with Autism for over 15 years. I hope to create an inclusive group of peers who can work on social skills, tell silly jokes and visit together each week!

You do not have to have Autism or another diagnosis to join this class! This is an inclusive environment for any student who wants to visit and work on conversational skills.

We will have different opportunities for conversing each week. Class topics will include but not be limited to:
What makes a person a good friend?
What is your favorite movie?
Bring your pet to class!
Teach us about something you’re good at!
What is your favorite food?
How can you be helpful to others?
Bring a LEGO creation you’re proud of to class!

**SECTION NOTE** Saturday morning 11:30aEST and Sunday evening 7pEST sections of this class currently skew older in age. Many of the students have been in the class together for several years and have forged friendships and look forward to meeting each week! The Tuesday 4:30pEST and Sunday 8pEST sections are newer sections and students will more strictly fall within the stated age-range.
Learning Goals
Students will learn that they are welcomed and valued! In a safe place with a small group of peers, students can share what makes them shine/unique!

I’m Nicole and I taught in the local public school system for several years! I was certified to teach Spanish, English, and Special Education K-12 and taught Spanish levels 1 through AP and English classes in general and self-contained classrooms. I left the public school system to homeschool my three children - ages 7, 10 and 12 - and together we learn and explore! I've traveled to Honduras and to Spain and I love teaching Spanish, language/grammar and culture! I also have extensive experience with special needs and work part time as a family consultant to families with children with Autism in Maryland.

I believe that understanding the mechanics of language is absolutely essential in good writing and in second-language acquisition. I especially enjoy teaching early reading/phonics/phonemic awareness, English grammar and Spanish grammar! I teach Spanish immersion classes where we are constantly laughing and learning and social skills groups where students develop relationships with peers around the world!

I'm happy to schedule one:one classes/tutoring by request. Please message me with questions!
