Let's Bake: Chewy Chocolate Oatmeal Bars!
In this one-time class, students will learn how to bake the most perfect cozy cookie bar smothered with decadent chocolate and topped with crunchy crumbles that will become a new family favorite!

Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their understanding of baking and how these ingredients work together to make this recipe. We'll learn about the ingredients and why we use each one. We will learn the benefits of eating oatmeal and other facts about it. I'll give them some ideas about other things they can bake with oatmeal to get them excited to incorporates healthy ingredients in their recipes. Students will be learning and having fun at the same time!
Students will be asked to upload a picture of their final product.
A one-page printable handout on the first session will be given. Please have the following ingredients, measuring tools and kitchen supplies ready before class begins. We will be measuring the ingredients together in class. Ingredients: 3 cups quick-cooking oats, uncooked 1/2 cup sliced almonds 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips 2 large eggs 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened 2 cups packed light brown sugar 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour cooking spray Kitchen Tools: electric mixer (handheld is fine) large mixing bowl silicone spatula 9 x 13 inch baking pan medium non-stick saucepan (no lid)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress is assessed with an informal assessment.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please use parental guidance in the kitchen and help with equipment such as the oven and stove. Also, please be aware of any food allergies.
