Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this one time class, students will participate in a shared reading of a book, work on creative builds inspired by the book or theme, and share their creations. During the shared reading, students will be encouraged to engage in comprehension discussion, practice inflection and fluency after I read certain sections. This course is designed too increase enthusiasm about reading while practicing skills for reading comprehension and fluency through a shared reading experience. Students will not be asked to read aloud to the class. Student interaction with each other and myself is highly encouraged in this class.

Although this is a one-time class, students are invited to attend class as many times as they would like as I will make sure to choose a different book when a returning student comes to class.

Some books that may be featured in this class include:

The Biggest Rollercoaster By Tina Kulger

If I Built A Car by Chris Van Dusen

Can I Play Too? by Mo Willems

Detective Chase McCain: Stop the Heist by Trey King

*If your child is the first to enroll in a session of this class, they are welcome to request which one of the books listed above they would like to have featured in the class they registered for. If a certain book has been requested for class, I will list that book along with the class date here so other families who register for that date know what the featured book will be for a given class session. Date will be added above when a book has been requested for a certain class session).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Families,
My name is Danielle Day. I have a passion for inspiring young learners! I have a degree in Elementary Education. I have taught in both homeschool and public elementary school settings over the the last 18 years. I have also taught ESL online. Aside from teaching, I have coached basketball and a Building Brick League Team. I think learning should be authentic, engaging, and fun! My husband and I have 3 sons. As a family, we enjoy playing games, reading, riding our bikes, building with building bricks, and exploring nature.

- If you do not see dates listed for a class, that does not mean that I'm no long teaching the class or that it isn't awesome. It just means that right now, I have more class ideas than available hours in the day. I try to balance opening a variety of classes and leaving myself some time to be able to accommodate requested classes. Please never hesitate to send me a message requesting that I open more sessions of a class!

I hope to meet your learner(s) in class soon!
Have a great day,
Mrs. Day
