Learning to Read With Ms. King- RWInc Set 1 Sounds Part 3 (FLEX)

This class is the final part of the SET 1 sounds that are taught according to the popular RWInc method. The full 12 week course is also available, however, if parents would like to complete part 1, part 2 and part 3 in stages- that will also cover all set 1 sounds. 

Why this course? There are so many different phonic classes out there and having taught a number of different types of curriculums I have seen what works for who and why. Long stories, songs and lots of chatting work well when it comes to English-speaking children who have a foundation in speaking English. What about students who have little exposure to English and a limited vocabulary? Well, this class solves the problem. This course is based on the successful Read, Write Inc curriculum that is used in many British schools. I have been trained in this approach, however, all materials that I will be using will be my own resources and therefore will be freely available for all the students to use as they please. This approach is based on lots of repetition, little discussion, short classes and focused instruction. The set 1 sounds are as follows: m a s d t, i n p g o, c k u b, f e l h sh, r j v y w, th z ch qu x ng nk. In this course (Part 3) these sounds will be taught- the, z, ch, qu, x, ng, nk. There will be much revision of all the sounds they have heard and lots of reading practice. Once students have completed all three parts to the course, I will then assess their blending and reading and will either recommend they continue going through SET 1 sounds or if they are ready for SET 2 sounds. Once students finish SET and SET 2 they should be confident and eager readers. 

Each week there will be 5 short lessons to watch. These lessons will be pre-recorded lessons that will be shared with an unlisted Youtube link. You are welcome to watch it as many times as you need. Three lessons will be introducing new sounds and the other two lessons will be a weekly review. Each video lesson is engaging, simple and has lots of repetition. It is taught in a way that makes the child feel they are in a live lesson. After each lesson, students should feel confident with the new sound they have learnt. With each recording there will be a printable, the letter flash cards that have been learnt and can be used to practice as well as some reading sheets. It is highly recommended that students first complete part 1 and part 2 before starting this course.
