Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 4
In this reading class, I will help your child grow in their reading skills at their own individual reading level. Whether your child is just beginning to learn their letters and sounds, or if they are developing well in their reading skills, or if they struggle with keeping up with their expected grade level of reading, this class will provide the support, activities and encouragement to help your child grow in their reading. The class will begin with a quick assessment to see where your child is at with their reading. Then I will choose activities that will best help your child with their current level. Some activities that the reading class may include are: 1. phonemic awareness activities if your learner is young and would benefit from some pre-reading skills. 2. Reading Simplified Activities such as switch-it, or read it, or sort it. (more info below) 3. Right brained reading strategies developed by Dianne Craft - helpful for learners with 4. Autism, Asperger’s, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and for students who struggle to remember letter sounds (more info below) 5. Stories to read at their level 6. Reading games such as tic tac toe, connect 4 or feed the shark 7. Or a combination of the above activities. During each lesson I will continually be assessing where your child is at to determine whether to continue at the same reading level, or whether your child is ready for a more challenging reading lesson. Your child will receive a lot of support and encouragement as they work on their reading skills with me! I look forward to helping your child learn how to read or improve their reading skills! Additional information: The Reading Simplified pathways include the following steps: Blending and manipulating 3 sound words Learning advanced phonics knowledge Blending and manipulating 4 sound words Blending by chunk (multisyllable) Right Brained Phonics is a reading program developed by Dianne Craft. It is an Orton Gillingham based phonics program. No rules, no writing, no memorizing. This program is for bright students who have to work too hard to learn how to read. Some clues that your child may benefit from right brained teaching strategies are: Phonics sounds & rules don’t stick (you’re on your 3rd phonics program) Your learner sounds out the same word over and over in a story Sight words are hard to memorize (Sounds out all words “what, many”)

Hello!
I have been teaching on Outschool since 2022, and I am absolutely loving it! I love meeting children from all over the world and helping them learn how to read or helping them to grow in their reading abilities.
My professional background/educational experiences:
After graduating from high school, I attended Bible college and then went to university to get my Bachelor of Education degree. I was a substitute and term teacher for many years for a variety of grade levels. I homeschooled my own children for one wonderful year. And then I taught kindergarten in the public school system for 11 years.
While teaching kindergarten, I thought I knew how to teach children how to read, but it wasn't until I found Reading Simplified and took their amazing reading course, that I finally learned the scientific and proven way of how to teach children how to read! The Reading Simplified method works! I have been working with many children for the past 2 years and been amazed at how much and how quickly many of them improve in their reading!
I have also discovered that some children who struggle to learn how to read benefit from Right Brained Teaching Strategies. This past year I have been learning how to help these bright learners with strategies taught by Dianne Craft.
I am passionate about making an emotional connection with each child and making each child feel seen, heard, special and loved. I strive to be caring, kind and encouraging while teaching new concepts to young learners.
I am a mom to three beautiful adult daughters, 2 amazing son-in-laws and a Nana to the most precious little baby girl. I live in Manitoba (which is in Canada:) and I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, attending church and exploring the beautiful outdoors. My favorite activity of all is waterskiing and boating on the lake with my family. When I am not busy being active in the great outdoors, I love spending a quiet evening reading an engaging book beside my fireplace.
