Class experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Students will be able to explain the Civil War, the underground railroad, and what life was like as a free slave in 1864.
I am a certified K-6 teacher with a minor in Early Childhood Development. I also am an avid History lover, who has over 10 years experience teaching History to my own children. Since this is a class for younger children, we will only discuss age appropriate facts related to the Civil War and Underground Railroad.
Homework Offered
*Note that there is homework to bake the salt dough between weeks two and three.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The students will be assessed on class participation.
Grades Offered
Students will need:
Worksheets that will be posted in the classroom.
pencil, crayons or markers
flour
salt
water
old make-up (that can be used to paint the bread. This makes the bread look very realistic! I recommend brown tones!)

*There is homework to bake the salt dough bread creations between weeks two and three.
*I also understand that the issue of slavery can be a sensitive subject. I plan to answer any questions in a caring and kind way. I also plan to teach the History behind the Civil War, making sure to stay fact based.
