Do you love reading? Do you love learning about different habitats? This fun, engaging class will work on reading and writing skills while learning about 6 amazing habitats. Students will learn how to make predictions, summarize, ask questions, learn to clarify, take notes and learn to how write a persuasive writing piece (final project at the end). This is an advanced reading class (Reading level 2nd grade or higher). The break down of each week is below. My class is very routine. We begin by going over vocabulary and comprehension strategy for the week, read the story (take turns reading), and end with activity to reinforce the comprehension strategy. As we are reading students will learn to take notes (will be provided). Week 7 and 8 we will work on final writing piece. Week 1: Story: Tundra ( predictions, note taking) Week 2: Story: Temperate Deciduous Forest (Prediction, summarizing, note taking) Week 3: Story: Rainforest (Summarizing, note taking) Week 4: Story: Grasslands (Summarizing, questioners, note taking) Week 5: Story: Taiga (Clarify, questions, note taking) Week 6: Story: Deserts (Use all skills: Predictions, summarizing, clarify, question, and note taking) Week 7: Review all 6 habitats (review notes)/Students will pick the habitat they liked the best and begin a persuasive writing piece (will follow a writing template) week 8: Finish up writing and share on last day

Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
I teach a variety of different classes geared toward elementary students ages 3 and up. My classes include ELA, Math, Writing, Phonics, Stories, teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced readers, simple to complex sentences, and much more. I love student participation and encourage it in all my class.
I have 16 years of teaching experience. I teach 4th grade ELA in a public school in NYS and have been teaching for 4 years on Outschool. I have a Masters in Elementary Education, Bachelors in History, Associates in Business. I have taught Pre-k, K, and ESL online. I have taught all subjects. Over my 16 years of teaching, I have gone to many different trainings in ELA, math, behavioral and I am trained in Logics by Ortan Gillingham and currently training and using restorative practices.
I believe every child can learn but not all through the same method. Learning needs to be fun and engaging and needs to be a memorable experience for students to truly understand it.
I am a mom to five wonderful kids ages 6-12. They keep me busy and I love being their number one teacher!
