Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner Level
📝 Ms. Price is a certified teacher with over a decade of experience teaching elementary-aged learners in a brick & mortar classroom. While Ms. Price has taught all subjects in these grades, she especially loves putting her Bachelor of Arts in English degree to use teaching writing classes! Ms. Price is passionate about instilling a love of writing in children, so all of her writing classes are taught using highly engaging, fun topics to make the writing process exciting for young learners! 📝

CLASS FORMAT:
Learning how to organize thoughts into a proper paragraph is an important skill that students need to master before middle school. However, it is a skill that can be challenging for many kids to learn. What is the purpose of a paragraph? What should be included in a paragraph? How long does a paragraph need to be?

During this 4-week class, we will answer these questions and learn about four different types of paragraphs: explanatory, descriptive, persuasive, or narrative!

Learners will write their paragraphs during class. After each student writes his or her paragraph, they will have the opportunity to share their writing with the class! In this way, students will get to practice writing a specific type of paragraph and hear several examples from their peers of the same type of writing!

⏰ A NOTE ABOUT SCHEDULING:
The length of this class length may vary slightly depending on the number of learners enrolled due to the fact that we spend time reading our paragraphs at the end of class! If the class is on the smaller side, class may end up to 5 minutes early. When the class is on the more full side, we may end up to 5 minutes late. For this reason, it would be wise to not schedule any classes back to back with this class! ⏰

🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏽‍♂️WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS? This class is designed for upper elementary ages. It is a *beginning* paragraph writing class. This skill would typically be considered a 3rd or 4th grade skill by U.S. standards. In my teaching experience, most 3rd graders are just starting to learn the concept of a paragraph, while it is pretty common for 4th graders to still struggle with the concept of writing a well-organized paragraph. Second graders who are advanced in their writing skills also do very well in this class! If you have a learner who is slightly older and could benefit from the skills taught in this class, please reach out to discuss an age range exception!

⭐️ PLEASE NOTE: To be successful in this class, learners must be able to independently write detailed, complete sentences. I will not be modeling how to write sentences in this class. ⭐️

📝 WEEKLY SCHEDULE: 📝

We will rotate through these four paragraphs on a 4-week rotation

Week 1: Descriptive
Week 2: Expository
Week 3: Narrative
Week 4: Persuasive/Opinion

LIVE VS. FLEX CLASS
The LIVE version of this class (this listing!) quite obviously won’t work for all schedules. Therefore, I also offer a FLEX version of this class, which allows your learner to do the work at whatever time works best for their schedule. The flex class contains the exact same content! It is simply delivered in a different format. In the flex class, rather than immediate verbal feedback from me (which learners receive in the live class), learners will receive written feedback on their submitted work.

📚 CLASS POLICIES 📚

MUTING: I love a highly interactive class, and I do not require students to be muted in my classes. That said, if there is a lot of background noise going on in a home, I will quietly mute that learner's camera so that other learners are not distracted by the noise. The learner is always welcome to unmute to ask questions or share!

CLASS RECORDING POLICY: When you pay for one of my classes, you are paying for the LIVE class, just like if this were an in-person class! I do not share recordings of my group classes in order to protect the privacy and safety of all learners. However, you are welcome to reach out if you have specific questions about something covered in class! Finally, if you prefer a recorded class, you may register for the FLEX version of this class where you will have access to 4 recorded lessons.

REFUND POLICY: This class follows Outschool's Limited Refund Policy. Your payment reserves a spot just for your child! Just like with in-person classes or extra-curricular events, refunds are not given when your child misses class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Texas Woman's University
My name is Rebecca Price, and I am the founder and creator of Learn With Ms. Price, a private teaching business which specializes in developing a love for writing in children and teens!

In 2021, Learn With Ms. Price started offering classes on Outschool in order to reach even more learners from around the world on this global platform. To date, I have taught over 600 learners on the Outschool platform!

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English, along with multiple teaching certifications including: All Subjects EC-4 (Early Childhood through 4th grade), English 6-12 (6th-12th grades), and English as a Second Language (ESL) K-12.

My professional educator's journey began with me teaching in the public school system in Texas for nearly a decade! In that time, I taught a variety of grades from Pre-K through 4th Grade. There was something very special for me about each different age group!

After nearly a decade of teaching in the public schools, I launched my own private teaching business, Learn With Ms. Price, where I have continued my love for mentoring young learners through one-on-one and group educational classes, both in person and online.

In addition to having taught in the public schools, I was home-schooled and in private schools for a significant portion of my education as a child, so I have a broad understanding of the various types of educational backgrounds from which your learner may be coming!

TEACHING STYLE:
My passion as a teacher is to develop a true love of learning in children, no matter the age! The way that I do this is by making sure that my teaching reaches learners who have all different types of learning styles. When a child is given instruction in a way that connects with their unique learning style, they are more easily able to integrate the concepts being taught, which in turn makes them feel successful and enjoy the process of learning! All of my classes are interactive, and your student will have opportunities to engage in a variety of ways throughout the class.

TYPES OF CLASSES I TEACH:
I have experience teaching all subjects in grades Pre-K through 4th grade, but with my degree in English, writing is the subject I'm most passionate about teaching! I offer a variety of writing classes on Outschool, with a focus on making writing fun for young learners. I specialize in one-on-one classes, where I am able to customize lessons to the unique needs of each learner.

POLICIES

REFUND POLICY: I have a limited refund policy, which means refunds are available up to 7 days before class starts (or within 24 hours of enrollment). As your enrollment reserves the spot for your child (and prevents another child from taking that spot), I do not issue refunds for late withdrawals or missed classes.

CLASS RECORDING POLICY: When you register your child for one of my classes, you’re paying for a LIVE, group class experience! I do not release recordings of my live classes (though I do have flex classes available). First and foremost, this is to protect the safety of all learners within the class. Many parents do not want recordings of their children to be made available to strangers, and I respect that through not making recordings available. Secondarily, unfortunately it is common for teacher’s hard work to be copied (stolen) by others, so there is also the need to protect my intellectual property (lessons I have personally created).
