Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, everyone!
My name is Amy Cooley and I have been teaching for over 20 years with a background in Special Education early intervention, theatre arts, dance, vocal performance and English as a second language! I have homeschooled my three children for 19 years. My oldest is son is a senior in college, pursuing a bachelor degree. My other two sons are in 12th and 8th grade. Prior to homeschooling my three children, I taught in the Special Education early intervention program in the public school system. Currently, I am an online ESL Teacher to students in Beijing, China. It has been my honor and privilege to teach 2,100 classes to over 8,000 students in an online multi- student classroom over the past two years. In my spare time, I also help students at a local youth organization make green screen videos for different media platforms. My passion is to make learning fun through exciting interaction, colors, media, physical props, hands on activities, games, audio and visual aids, crafts, movement and music!
Teaching in a multi student online classroom is a joy for me! I have a passion for making my classroom a learning stage for my students and I enjoy connecting with each individual student during class. I believe that when classes are fun and interactive, students are able to stay engaged and retain the information they learn in class.
I also have over 20 years of experience in teaching private voice and piano lessons in the Nashville, Tennessee area. I was also a director of a national award-winning high school show choir. Teaching students how to play the piano and sing simultaneously is also a passion of mine! When I see the skill "click" with the student, I feel as though I have accomplished a musical miracle. I love to make learning music fun, yet simple. My husband has been a Special Education Teacher in the public school system for over 15 years, and I have had the honor and privilege to teach private music lessons to many of his amazing students (and even their parents!) throughout the years!
In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family, travel, and try different foods from different cultures.
One thing on my bucket list is to visit all 7 of my exchange students in their native countries!
I look forward to seeing you in class! Feel free to contact me with any questions! :)
