Class Experience

Welcome to Typing for Beginners. We are going to learn each letter on the qwerty keyboard. A big part of this class is going to depend upon you practicing every day. Doing this will help ensure you will be able to advance each week and your typing skills to continue to improve. Every week each student will be asked to complete the assignments assigned, and once these are completed then repeat lessons for practice or play the game on typing.com website. The recommended time for practice is 15 minutes a day. Each week there will be 2-3 lessons that need to be completed before the next week’s class. Parents need to ensure students are completing their assignments and this practice daily.

Weekly students will post in the weekly Game Thread their highest score on the games they played on typing.com to practice their typing skills they learned that week after the weekly lessons are completed.

Parents should also ensure the students are sitting at a table or desk, feet on the floor and room for their arms to rest on the table as they complete their lessons. This will help with proper form and help students to increase in accuracy and speed with typing. The teacher will go over this in the first video in the first class.

Students need to use a keyboard on either a laptop computer or desktop with an external keyboard as shown in each week's assignments so they are sure to be practicing correctly to help establish good typing habits from the beginning.

Learning goals:

To learn the keyboard and all the letters on it in correct form and become proficient in accuracy and speed.

Steps for each student:

Each week, students will watch a video posted in the classroom to receive their lessons. All lessons will be listed in their typing.com account. After the video from the teacher has been watched. They can log in to the typing.com account assigned to them and complete that week's assignments. Each student will have one week to complete each week of assignments.
Each day student is expected to work on weekly assignments and or practice a minimum of 15 minutes a day. There is a typing timer in the typing.com program to help you keep track of this. (this timer only records time in lessons not games.)
Students will post in the classroom under the Weekly Assignment Thread once they have completed their weekly assignments and what their average accuracy score and WPM score was. Students can also ask questions in this thread.
The teacher will post a message for each student privately checking in with them about their weekly assignments and how they are doing with them. This will be in the private message area for each student.
Each week students will be asked to post under the weekly game score thread their top score for the game they played that week and what their top game score was. This will provide an opportunity for students to compete against each other and see if they can beat their classmates scores. The teacher will also participate in this as a student.

Student Interaction:
