Class experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
Students will learn the fundamentals of singing and how the voice works through exercises, examples, and technique work. Students will work toward learning a song they can perform. Topics covered include breathe support, placement, phrasing, vocal registers, belting, healthy singing, vowels and dipthongs, and vocal agility. Students will also learn acting and performance techniques so they can perform their song for an audience.

Our lessons will provide a supportive, creative space for students to discover the joy of making music. Whether you're new to the instrument or continuing your studies, my goal is to foster your love of music through tailored instruction and a strengths-based approach.

Most of all, I hope you'll walk away feeling empowered in your ability to express yourself musically. My hope is that the music you learn brings you years of enrichment - both in technical skill and personal fulfillment. Let's get started!
Hello! My name is Karina. I am a Dramatic Mezzo Soprano based in Toronto, though I often travel abroad to Europe for work as well. I recently graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from The University of Toronto.

As someone who has experience both performing and teaching, I strive to create a well-rounded learning environment for each unique student. I tailor my lessons specifically based on their individual musical needs and goals.

I truly enjoy teaching students of all backgrounds and skill levels, from professionals to complete beginners. Everyone learns differently, so I take a flexible approach and make things engaging and fun for each person. My top priorities are proper technique, musical expression, and making progress at each student's own pace.

I also perform internationally, with upcoming performances playing The Mother in Menotti’s The Consul with Opera by Request in Toronto. I will also be covering the role of Fricka and singing Roßweiße in Wagner's Die Walküre with the Dramatic Voices Program in Berlin, Germany later this year.

In addition to performing, I offer both private and group voice lessons. I specialize in teaching Classical, Pop, Musical Theatre, and all contemporary styles. What's more, I also teach piano, music theory,
and music history on the side.

If you'd like to take voice, piano, or music lessons from me, please feel free to contact me to discuss setting up weekly lessons. I would be happy to help you achieve your music goals in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Please be sure to book at least one day in advance to give me time to prepare! Thank you and hope to see you soon!
Homework Offered
Students will be expected to learn their songs at their own pace by putting in some time practicing at home in addition to class. Students should ideally practice for 20 minutes 4 times a week to learn the notes and pitches to their song and practice techniques learned in class. Everyone has different time constraints so this is just a suggestion for minimum ideal practice.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Vocal warm-ups and links to song lyrics, tracks, and sheet music (optional on www.musicnotes.com) will be posted in the classroom for students to review and practice.

Students will need the printed lyrics and/or sheet music, a karaoke backing track, and a separate device to play it on. Students should print song lyrics from the teacher links or sheet music so they can have the words in front of them in class to make notes for themselves.

Information for optional purchase of sheet music and links to song guide vocals and karaoke tracks (iTunes, Youtube, and/or Spotify) will also be provided in the classroom.

Students should also have another device like a tablet, phone, or speaker on which they can play their tracks.
