Class Experience

This class is for learners who have completed my Level 2 phonics class. If your learner has not completed my level 2 course, please click here to enroll: https://outschool.com/classes/learn-to-read-with-phonics-level-2-long-vowels-qL7yhfD9?usid=LYKWI4g2&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

This class will help learners read words with consonant blends such as spoon, dolphin, watch, king, square, cage, and many more.

Phonics instruction helps learners to comprehend text. It helps the learner to decode words. When learners are able to decode words, it helps them to recognize more words and increase their reading fluency. When readers are able to read fluently it improves their reading comprehension because they are not struggling with decoding words and can concentrate on making meaning from the text.

In addition, phonics instruction helps with spelling ability because it emphasizes the spelling patterns that become from reading. Although not all English words can be spelled and read with phonics, studies have shown that half of all English words can be spelled with phonics rules that relate one letter to one sound.

In this class, we will focus on words with consonant blends, soft c, soft g, and voiced s. This is the third level. I will cycle through eight different lessons. Learners can join and complete the lessons in any order. Once they complete all eight lessons, they should move on to Level 4. There will be a total of four levels available. This class is great for learners at a high Kindergarten, first grade, and even second grade level.

If your learner is younger, does not know many letter sounds, or is having a hard time putting sounds together, they may benefit from my Get Ready to Read: Phonemic Awareness Class which can be found here: https://outschool.com/classes/get-ready-to-read-phonemic-awareness-gmDX97ex?usid=LYKWI4g2&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

Hi there! My name is Ms. Amanda and I am an experienced online teacher with a background in childhood education and Spanish. After graduating from the State University of New York at Fredonia, I taught first grade in Arizona for two years before moving to North Carolina to open a business with my husband. In North Carolina, I taught GED and ESL classes at a community college and first grade for two more years.

Despite my love for teaching in the traditional classroom setting, once my son was born, I decided to stay home and pursue my passion for teaching online. Since then, I have been staying at home with my two young children while teaching online classes with OutSchool and teaching ESL classes to children in China. I also worked as a content producer for a children's literacy app.

I have a passion for helping children learn how to read, which is a crucial foundation for lifelong learning. As an educator, I believe in instilling a growth mindset in my students, where they are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from their mistakes, and ultimately reach their full potential. I look forward to working with your child to help them develop their skills and build their confidence in the classroom and beyond.
