Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this one on one ongoing class, your learner will develop and strengthen reading skills. In class, I will introduce and reinforce pre-reading and reading skills. What are pre-reading skills, you ask?! Pre-reading skills are skills or strategies that children learn that will help with reading later. Studies show that sharpening pre-reading skills creates a stronger reader. If you have ever seen a child read words that were previously introduced well but struggle with new words, that’s because their pre-reading skills weren’t sharpened. Homeschool parents can use this class to assist with introducing skills or supplement learning. The main skills that will be introduced are phonological awareness and phonemic awareness skills and they are as follows:awareness of print, syllables, onset and rime, rhyming, initial sounds, final sounds and understanding phonemes. Your learner will also learn to write letters. I am a very engaging teacher. I will always allow your learner to transition into our learning time. I engage in class by greeting each other, asking questions, sing-alongs, games and show & tell. We will read stories, learn letter sounds and learn sight words. Your learner will have an opportunity to practice concepts in class with weekly provided worksheets and engage in activities. There is lots of movement in class, learning areas need to allow room to move. Please note that children learn to read at different ages and that is okay. If in working with your child I see that they are not quite ready I will inform you on the next steps for success for your little one.

Hi! My name is Mrs. LaShana! I love teaching math classes. I also love teaching Preschool. I have worked with children for over 15 years. I worked as a daycare teacher for 6 years. I have an Associate's degree in Elementary Education. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Fun fact: Mathematics was my my original major in college until Senior year. I am using all those skills to teach. I am a former homeschool mother of 3 children. I am always learning. I think it is a life-long journey. I think learning should be continuous and exciting! My hobbies are cooking, sewing, and crafting. Interesting fact: I once decorated a mirror filled with pennies!
