This interactive class will introduce students to 3-5 new sight words a week. We will read stories with these sight words. Your child can access these books at home to allow for additional practice. We will practice writing, reading, and making short vowel words with 2 vowels. Your child will begin working with vowel pairs (-ay, -ai, -y). During these lessons, your child will have an opportunity to read, write, and learn beginning reading strategies. We will be using Raz-Plus for our books, which you will have access to at home. I have over 20 years of experience teaching new and struggling readers. Students should be familiar with letters and letter sounds and show signs of an emergent reader (interest in books, writing, and reading). Lesson 1: We will read "At the Fair" by Elizabeth Jane Pustilnik. We will spell and make /ay/ words and write a sentence about something we can ride on. Lesson 2: We will read "Going Away" by Ned Jensen. We will spell and make /at/, /ad/ and /ay/ words and write a sentence using the frame: We can ________ away. Lesson 3: We will read "New Again" by Keith and Sarah Kortemartin. We will spell and make /ai/ words and write a sentence using the frame: We can make a ________. Lesson 4: We will read "Animals that Sting" by Edie Evans. We will spell and make words with /ea/ and write using the story frame: A _______ stings to defend itself. Lesson 5: We will read "Too Hot" by Anthony Curran. We will spell and read /u-e/ words and write a sentence using the frame: We wanted to ________, but it was too hot. Lesson 6: We will read "More Baby Animals" by Laurent Simmons. We will spell and make words with /ue/, /un/ and write a sentence using the frame: A baby _____ is called a ______. Lesson 7: We will read "Tools" by Robert Charles. We will spell and make words with /ay/ and write a sentence using the frame: It is a _____ for a ________. We will work with the following sight words: can, ride, your, in, is, this, get, we, are, live, into, the, to, at, they, too, want, his, of, said, do, which, go, I, here, all, and then. Lesson 8: We will read "Rocks" by Kitty Higgins. We will spell and make/oa/ words and write a sentence about rocks. We will work with the following sight words: are, at, the, there, my, not, be, can, has, it, you, play, what, like, many, kinds, our, when, have, now, with, on, is, this, off, to, we
