Greetings! In this course, students will learn about the base-20 number system used by the ancient Maya. By the end of the class, they will be able to read and write the numbers 0-20 (and beyond)! After class introductions, I will briefly spotlight the geography and time period of the classical Maya civilization, which took place roughly 250-1500 AD in parts of Mexico and Central America. I have loved learning about the ancient Maya since I was in elementary school! I studied Anthropology and Archaeology in college, where I took several courses on the ancient Maya, including two semesters of Mayan language and writing. I have also tutored elementary students in math.
