Or maybe you've dabbled in watercolor painting but want to learn more advanced techniques so that you can create beautiful finished artwork that is ready to frame and hang on the wall? Well then you're in the right place. Because in every single class of Watercolor Painting 101, you learn an essential new watercolor technique AND leave class with a beautiful new piece of art. Join this judgment-free, super relaxed Watercolor Painting experience where I'll guide and encourage you every step of the way into growing more confident with your watercolor skills and help you make beautiful art. Students will work with a variety of watercolor techniques from wet on wet to using salt to create implied texture. Students will learn how to draft using a pencil, use a pen to fill in lines and space, and apply learned watercolor techniques dependent on the desired outcome for the project. Students will be encouraged to create and design details to their own creative preferences. Below is the tentative schedule: Week 1: Awesome Animal Portraits using Oil Resist. Week 2: Fabulous Folk Art Cityscape using Overlapping to Create Depth Week 3: Geometric Iceberg using the Salt Technique. Week 4: Marvelous Marsh Land using Hatching and Salt technique. Week 5: Fantastic Fireflies at Night using Silhouettes and Blending. Week 6: Lucious Landscape Folk Art using Analogous Colors. Week 7: Stellar Sea Creatures using Value. Week 8: Bold Bird Portraits using Pointillism with Paint. Week 9: Tremendous Trucks using Details. Week 10: Cozy Cabin in the Woods using Wet on Wet Technique. Week 11: Snowy Sunset using Bloom Technique. Week 12: Wonderful Watercolor Postcards using Poylipictic. Supplies needed: Watercolor (tube or cake) a variety of brushes permanent pens like sharpie (thin and medium) cup for water pencil eraser sharpener multimedia or watercolor paper is highly recommended (computer paper may bleed through but can be used in a pinch) Oil pastel is suggested, crayons will also work for these lessons Color pencils are encouraged. TAUGHT BY JODI SIBILIA, ARTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE: Jodi is a published artist, certified art teacher, gallery curator, and yoga instructor. She has over 6 years of experience teaching grades preK-12 in public schools. She knows how to make young artists feel relaxed and confident in her classes. In fact, Jodi runs her own yoga studio where she currently teaches yoga and mindful arts to students. Jodi uses a mindfulness approach in her online classes, as well, encouraging students to add their own unique details and style to their work. Jodi truly believes that every child is an artist and knows there is no such thing as perfect. In fact, you’ll hear her say her favorite saying during her classes “Practice makes…Better!” Jodi’s enjoys spending time with her two cats and horseback riding and working with horses at a local ranch. Jodi is a published artist and curates a local gallery where young and upcoming artists are shown and celebrated. Jodi earned a BA in Studio Art from Johnson College Vermont and a Masters in Teaching from Chatham University Pittsburgh.
Learning Goals
Each class students will learn new techniques and apply prior knowledge to new and interesting projects. Students will work with a variety of watercolor techniques from wet on wet to using salt to create implied texture.
