In this course, students will be introduced to using arrays to multiply single-digit numbers. Students will learn how to draw appropriate arrays of rows and columns to represent multiplication problems. They will practice using the arrays to skip count to the correct answer. This is a great course for students who are new to arrays or students who need a bit of practice with the skill. The class will be taught in a teacher-directed format in a pace that allows for students to ask questions as they are working out the problems, instead of having to wait until the end of the problem. In this class, problems will be solved live and together - not using slides or video clips. This will allow me to recognize any student questions or concerns immediately so we can work together to solve them. There is no experience required, but it is helpful if students are familiar with basic repeated addition skills to use with skip counting.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to use arrays to solve single-digit multiplication problems.
Students will practice skip counting skills using visual models.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I have been an elementary educator for 17 years. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Michigan University with an emphasis in Reading and Science. I also worked as a toddler and preschool teacher in Michigan for several years before relocating to North Carolina. I have experience in all elementary grades, but the majority of my teaching has been in grades 2, 3, and 4.
I am so excited to teach on Outschool! My favorite part of teaching is helping students get excited about learning! Finding the correct content and delivery to help students become enthusiastic learners is my specialty! I teach a variety of classes including preschool story hours, elementary book clubs and specific math concepts such as multiplication and fractions. I love discussing books with students and guiding them to make connections, observations and learn lessons from their reading.
I am a mother to two daughters - ages five and eight. We love using creativity to learn about the world around us through STEM projects and self-guided learning. Our family finds teachable moments every day and enjoys learning about what we love! We spends lots of time outdoors and completing family read alouds.
Thanks so much for visiting my profile page! I can't wait to see you in class!
