Class Experience

In this class, students will draw along with me to sketch out a dragon. I teach them using method for making complex drawings more simple. This class is designed for students of intermediate ability. However, if your child is comfortable drawing shapes like squares, rectangles and circles, they should be able to keep up.

*This class is at a discounted price so that students can get a feel for my teaching style. Students who enjoyed this class and found it useful may want to consider joining one of my ongoing drawing classes that meets every week.

Learning Goals

-Practice the fundamentals of drawing
-Practice a workflow for approaching any art piece
-Learn about how to draw both realistically and in a cartoon style
-Have fun creating a beautiful drawing

Supply List
1. Drawing paper (9x12 inches is the standard. Printer paper may be used, but it is very smooth and is more difficult to work on. Paper like Strathmore Sketch paper is much better for drawing and it can be found online or at most art stores. We will use more than once piece of paper each class.)
2. Graphite pencils (Hardness 2b or softer is ideal. Common pencils used in school will work but, once again, are a bit more difficult to work with. They also cannot draw very dark.)
3. Eraser

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Wilmington
Hello! I'm Mr. Kyle and I am passionate about teaching (and learning!) digital and traditional art.

I graduated college with a B.A. in Psychology. After graduation, I moved to China to teach at a school in Shanghai. There, I taught English, art, science, and social studies for three years before moving back home at the end of 2016. Since then, I have been teaching online. Since 2016, I have spent most of my time outside of work seriously pursuing art. I began self-teaching from books, then I moved to online learning, and finally studied at the Academy of Classical Design.

I believe that artists need to learn the fundamentals of their craft to fully express themselves. I teach the fundamentals of visual art in all of my lessons (implicitly or explicitly). But, learning art should also be fun, so I dedicate the first half of each of my classes to learning, and the second half we have fun by creating art and applying what we learned.

Outside of work and creating art, I love traveling (I've been to over thirty countries!), learning other languages (I'm fluent in Spanish and speak Mandarin well), reading, and playing sports.
