Class Experience

This class is also offered as a camp:

In this course, students will learn how to code in JavaScript while also learning how to create games with the Phaser framework. Phaser is a powerful framework that's an industry standard for creating games for Facebook Instant marketplace, Android Play Store, Apple Store, websites, and more. In each class I will show and explain how to code sections of the game, then I will ask students to try it out themselves. I will also give out a challenge after every class so students can experiment and grow their knowledge.

Week One:
I will show and guide students on how to install phaser and everything else we will need to code our game. Then, they will learn how to load assets like the player and also create animations and move the player around

Week Two:
In this week we will learn how to load level data from external files, create the platforms, and the fire the player will have to avoid. also in this week we will start adding collision and detecting overlaps.

Week Three:
In the final week we add the barrels and the logic for them to spawn and how to interact with our player. Students will also learn higher game development concept like recycling objects and how to make the game more efficient.

Students don't need to have coding knowledge. Since this course uses Repl any computer with internet access will work.

Please note: If the student is outside of the age range but you think they still may be suitable for this class, please contact me before signing up. They should have experience navigating around a computer and be able to listen and follow instructions well with minimal help.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a degree in computer science and have been coding for over 10 years. I have also worked a few years in the industry creating desktop games. As someone who was originally self taught I know how important it is to learn code by being very hands-on and experimenting, which is how I will be teaching.
