Our classes offers all ages and skill levels engaging, instructor-guided, learning experiences designed to trigger curiosity, stimulate creativity, and sow the seeds of life-long learning. In our 50-minute online classes, your kid will have a blast making their ideas real with technology while developing resilience and learning the basics of coding & problem solving. For this class, we will be coding games in Roblox. Roblox is a popular multi-player game that comes with it's own built-in coding environment. Students can build on the base functionality of the original game to create their own custom projects. Students gain experience with text-based coding in the Lua coding language. Students will be exposed to all fundamental aspects of scripting, including functions, logic, loops, and variables. Our curriculum is tightly intertwined with our proprietary web platform that students use both in class as well as for out-of-class practice. Our platform guides students through projects with an eye on independence – students are encouraged to use only as much help as they need. The platform keeps track of how much support it provides each student during a project as well as the particular areas where students keep getting stuck. Instructors use this information to better personalize the student experience with targeted questions and feedback to make sure that every student is getting the support that they need. In our Roblox class, students will learn five fundamental coding concepts: variables, loops, logic, events, and functions. Students are exposed to multiple integrated concepts in every project because we believe that seeing how code is used "in the wild" is the best way to learn how to use it effectively. Students demonstrate mastery when they're able to both describe a concept completely as well as use it correctly in context with minimal instructor support. Your child will mix interactive group activities with supported individual work. Students learn best by doing, not just watching, so our instructors let students build while closely supervising and jumping in to get students unstuck. Students will also get practice with engineering communication as they debug each others code, present their projects and explain the technical concepts they learn in class.
