Tuesday, October 18, 2022 -- Class starts at the beginning of the alphabet with א (Aleph!) But, you may join any week. Taught by a teacher with an MA in Jewish Studies, this beginner's level course is a fun introduction to the sights and sounds of the Hebrew alphabet! We usually cover around five or six letters each week, including final forms and phonemes (which I treat as separate letters). This class is meant to familiarize students with these letters and their sounds. Students should not expect to have them memorized in one week! Students may join in any week, and are welcome to continue in/repeat the class for as long as it is fun and beneficial for them. **In order to facilitate discussion, students should expect to keep their screens on. Students should also be prepared to share their thoughts with, and respectfully listen to, their teacher and their fellow students. Thank you!** This is an ongoing class. Each week stands alone, with no prior knowledge needed. Students may join or leave the class at any point. It is fine to join at any time - we will cycle back around to the beginning of the alphabet!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have an MA in Jewish Studies from the University of Indiana-Bloomington, and have completed several other academic Jewish Studies and Religious Studies classes, at the graduate level. This includes more than two years of Biblical Hebrew, as well as several classes in Modern Hebrew. I taught Hebrew school in person for several years. As a Hebrew school teacher, I have helped hundreds of students develop and improve their Hebrew reading skills, from the beginner level on. Although I have excellent Hebrew reading skills, I am not a fluent speaker of Modern Hebrew.
Outschool is a secular platform, and this class takes an academic and secular approach to all topics.
