Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Ever wanted to be a physicist? Or maybe you have a passion for something in physics? Quantum mechanics, gravity, causality, black holes, the universe....whatever it is, this class is for you!

In this class we will learn how to investigate and become informed of any topic in physics that you might desire. We will learn how to use tools like ChatGPT or Bard to dig into a physics problem.

Learners will pick a topic of their choosing (subject to approval by teacher). Over 10 weeks, learners will learn how to investigate their topics through a conversational style with ChatGPT (or similar tools). At the end of the course, each learner will have prepared a paper that explains their topic. This paper will be written by ChatGPT, but presented by learner in the last session.

Important scientific techniques will be thought to allow students create the best possible scientific paper.

IMPORTANT: Each learner must have an account with ChatGPT (if you're using Bard, please contact me before class starts) prior to first class. ChatGPT accounts are free for GPT-3. Learners will also need access to Google Docs or Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides

Class outline:
Week 1: Introduction to ChatGPT and Bard. Learners pick their topic
Week 2-5: We will learn how to hold a conversation with ChatGPT in order to learn as much about the topic as they can. A report will be started.
Week 6-8: We will learn how to challenge our own findings, to anticipate challenges from others, and to proactive provide answers in our report.
Week 9: Time to wrap up our reports and work on putting our slide deck together.
Week 10: Make report available to the class and present the slide deck (5 to 15 minutes each depending on number of students in class).
Learning Goals
The goal for this class is to enable learners to use new AI tools to learn about physics on their own terms.
