US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
Phonological awareness skills including -beginning sounds, middle sounds, segmenting, blending, phoneme manipulation and rhyming We will follow the "I do, we do, you do" format. I will utilize slides for a portion of the lesson, but most of the lesson will be interactive, back and forth engagement. Overview of Course 1 What will be taught? 5 letters will be taught over the course of 3 weeks. Letters M, A, S, P and T. There will also be a culminating class which will review all the skills learned over the three weeks and we apply these skills through written work and interactive word building. Week 1: Letters Mm and Aa Week 2: Letters Ss and Pp Week 3: Letters Tt and course wrap up where we apply these skills to writing/reading How is my class structured? 1) I will present the material utilizing a variety of teaching tools and strategies, including TPR (Total physical response) when introducing the letters 2) Display picture cards with target sound 3) I will then transition to google slides where we will look at interactive slides containing the sound pattern. 4) Depending upon where we are in the course and how many letters have been taught, we may take some time to blend/read words with the target sound. 4) Once the material is presented, I will guide students along in completing the practice pages that are provided. 5) Handwriting Practice (may be given as homework or as a separate post, depending on the lesson pace and time) How will I teach? This class will be listed as a Live Class, with additional posts/materials. My teaching style includes a combination of direct instruction and utilizing slides/interactive material. I like to utilize a combination of direct instruction, songs, games, movement when appropriate. Interacting with the teacher: Students will receive frequent feedback from me on their completed work. I will be available to parents and look forward to working together. Once course # 1 is completed, parents have the option to enroll their child in Course #2 which will review the next round of letters. *This class is also available in a FLEX format*
Learning Goals
Students will be able to generate the letter name and sound for letters M, S, A, T and P.
Students will be able to blend these letters together to begin reading.
Students will be able to form their letters.
Other Details
Learning Needs
Supports students with ADHD, Dyslexia and ASD. Engaging videos, utilizing I do, we do, you do model. Students will receive feedback from the work they share.
Supply List
4-6 pages of practice materials will be provided (this includes classwork and homework pages) for each letter.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
