In this ongoing maths class, young learners will learn about a new maths concept or topic each week based on the United Kingdom's National Curriculum for Year’s 3 & 4, Lower Key Stage 2 (LKS2) or ages 7-9. US equivalent would be Grades 2 and 3. Each student will learn new skills and various methods for solving the maths problems presented. Students will increase their knowledge of six areas of math suitable for their age and ability in Number & Place Value, Measurement, Calculations, Statistics, Fractions and Geometry.
I am a UK qualified primary school teacher with a specialism in mathematics (PGCE with a specialism in Mathematics - Merit) and have been teaching for six years. I am passionate about young children being given the opportunity to explore and have fun with concrete objects to build a strong mathematical foundation.
Homework Offered
Students are encouraged to complete work started in class at home and post to the classroom for feedback each week to reinforce new concepts and practise independently.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
I will address any misconceptions as they arise and assess a student's comprehension and understanding of a skill or knowledge during the learning and teaching process (Assessment for Learning). If completed work is submitted to the classroom I will mark it and provide feedback.Grades Offered
Writing materials Worksheet print-outs for each week (posted on classroom weekly) or a notebook/paper. If you prefer to download class materials, please ensure your learner has access to write/draw on the document digitally (e.g. Zoom's annotate function or on PDF). Small objects to count with e.g. dried pasta shapes, plastic building blocks, cereal pieces or math link cubes. On occasion learners will be asked to bring additional materials to class e.g. modelling clay/dough, scissors and glue stick.
YouTube will be used on occasion for video content and songs. Interactive maths games are usually from Topmarks, ICT Games and Twinkl.
