Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Everyday people were tiring of excessive taxes by a king living an ocean away while his rough soldiers occupied their city streets and homes. A secret society filled the taverns and meeting houses to discuss independence. Tea was thrown into Boston’s harbor and the shot heard round the world soon followed.

Meet the Sons of Liberty who led our revolution that ultimately brought independence. Sam Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere were well known leaders of the group whose actions caused ordinary citizens to realize it would take everyone to gain independence. We’ll discuss three key events credited to the group that prompted the revolution.

Students can ask questions throughout class or even beforehand to ensure their learning goals are met. And, we'll review near the end to ensure everyone understands key points.
Learning Goals
The class will focus on leaders Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and even Benedict Arnold.

Three events – The Boston Tea Party, attack on the HMS Gaspee and tar and feathering of tax collector John Malcolm – were the highlights of the group’s impact before the Revolution.

We’ll also discuss what happened to the Sons of Liberty once the war began.

Class discussion will include a summary so each student’s goals are met.
