The class will focus on leaders Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and even Benedict Arnold. Three events – The Boston Tea Party, attack on the HMS Gaspee and tar and feathering of tax collector John Malcolm – were the highlights of the group’s impact before the Revolution. We’ll also discuss what happened to the Sons of Liberty once the war began. Class discussion will include a summary so each student’s goals are met.
I'm a lifelong storyteller as a Washington newspaper journalist of 43 years and a licensed tour guide for 10 years. Growing up across George Washington’s Mount Vernon sparked my interest in colonial leaders. I teach history and civics classes that often center around our nation’s capital and its leaders. My other classes include the Eight Founding Fathers Who Created a Nation, Let’s Visit George Washington’s Mount Vernon and Learn the Secrets of George Washington’s Spy Rings.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class discusses the tar and feathering of a tax collector and the takeover of a British ship. However, discussions are G-rated and concentrate on the overall impact of events rather than details of the acts themselves.
