This class will be an exciting combination of games, crafts, and learning Chinese at the beginner level. The students will hear me speaking Chinese often, so they can start to immerse themselves in Chinese. For learners with no Chinese background, repetitive lessons and a higher frequency of meetings are suggested. This is a short program that focuses on very basic Chinese. Children will slowly acquire a new language by engaging in our exciting activities, visual stimulations, hand-crafting, music, and games. We will meet for 45 minutes each class and 2 times a week. Throughout the course, students will learn Chinese with pokemon and practice Chinese with pokemon trainers. They will catch their favorite pokemon and achieve their learning goals through fun games. In each class, students will also practice writing a few characters. Week 1: Greetings and pronouns Week 2: Numbers craft: pokemon ball and collectibles Week 3: Tell time and time expressions Week 4: Hobbies craft: pokemon bookmark Week 5: Review No prior experience of Chinese necessary. This class is for beginners.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Ruiyi. I’m a native Chinese speaker. I’ve lived in the U.S. for almost 9 years. I graduated with an MA degree in linguistics. I have taught at FAU for two years as a teacher assistant. I’ve taught at a high school, as well as several language schools. I'm currently teaching Chinese for two programs including the LEAP program with the Air Force and the VFLC program with the National Defense Department. Meanwhile, I'm teaching for after-school programs and high school credit programs for California school districts.
I believe that teaching classes in Chinese while incorporating hands-on activities, games, visual stimulations, and technology will facilitate language understanding and activate a higher level of thinking. I try my best to make language classes fun and encouraging. My goal for my classes with your children is to make language learning an enjoyable activity, rather than a chore.
All of my classes are immersion classes. It is at this stage that children learn pronunciation easily, and vocabulary sticks longer. Linguists do not recommend teaching young children a language since they will pick it up on their own. I will use repetition a lot in my classes. Children acquire the language by listening to me speak and repeat.
