Thanksgiving is an important and historic holiday. There is specialized vocabulary used to discuss this holiday. In the next 4 classes, we will learn 27 vocabulary words related to Thanksgiving symbols, food, parades, and fun. Students will engage in singing songs, listening to poetry, pronouncing vocabulary words, and constructing grammatically sound sentences using the newly learned vocabulary. We use a variety of techniques to engage the learners such as brief video clips, pictionary, flash cards, charades, and bingo. At the end of each class, students will receive follow up practice they can use at home to review all material covered in class. This class is best for pre-kindergarten through second grade. Scope and Sequence: Week 1: Thanksgiving Symbols including vocabulary turkey, feathers, cornucopia, scarecrow, acorn, and feast Week 2: Thanksgiving Harvest including vocabulary harvested, pie, pumpkin, pudding, yam, cranberry, gravy, and turkey Week 3: Thanksgiving Parade including vocabulary parade, balloons, float, banner/sign, crowd, celebration, and marching band. Week 4: Thanksgiving Fun including vocabulary football, wreath, bobbing for apples, place setting/setting the table, thankfulness, and gobble. Songs, Stories, and Poems: Baby Sharks Thanksgiving If You Are Thankful and You Know It Thanksgiving Day (no author) Five Little Turkeys Our goal is to expand the students' vocabulary and therefore, it is best if students have some basic English language skills.
