In this book club, we will work on reading comprehension by discussing books with strong female lead characters from well-known authors Beverly Cleary, Kate DiCamillo, and Gail Carson Levine.

Want to be the leading lady in your own life? In this book club, we will discuss a new book with strong female characters that are quirky and unique every two weeks. Join us in a round-table discussion about the character traits that make the character(s) of the book the leading ladies of their own lives. We will discuss the character traits (grit, bravery, selflessness, integrity, positivity, etc.) of the heroine(s). Then you will connect them to your own lives to help you learn what it...
- Students will practice participating in discussions about a text. -Students will learn how to ask and answer questions about a text. -Students will learn discussion manners (taking turns, listening, connecting to another's thoughts, etc.)
- Students will discuss the traits of strong female characters.
- Students will discuss how they can apply those traits to their lives to help them become “leading ladies.”
- Students will practice how to make connections between themselves and the text.
I am a certified teacher and have a master's in literacy. I also have experience guiding book clubs in brick and mortar classrooms.

(If the text is too hard for your child to understand, parents may feel free to read sections aloud to the child for better enjoyment of the novel or have your child listen to the story with an audiobook version.) To help students prepare for our group discussion, they must review the provided discussion questions. They should be prepared to share their thoughts verbally during our book club meetings.
