What's included

1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Students may choose to continue working on their drawings at home between classes. They may also find their own landscapes to draw, and share drawings in the beginning of each class.
Assessment
Throughout the class, students will be sharing their work in progress with the teacher, to receive feedback and to solve problems as they come up. Students will be reminded of topics already covered in previous weeks to make sure they are using their knowledge to the best of their ability.

Class Experience

Every week, we will have a photo of a landscape to base our drawings on. We will discuss composition as it applies to each specific view. Some of our landscapes will include buildings or objects in one or two-point perspective, allowing for a consistent review of perspective concepts as applied to landscape drawings. Students will interact with each other and the teacher by showing their work in progress throughout the class to receive feedback. Students may provide feedback to each other, in a kind and respectful manner. Students will not be "copying" a drawing done by the teacher, instead, alongside the teacher, students will be working on their drawings independently to practice their own observation skills. We will solve problems together as they come up. We will also use different materials to produce different effects. #creative

My background includes professional illustration, printmaking, and an MA in Art History, but after many years of various jobs in the art world, I found that the best use of my knowledge and talent is teaching art to children. For the past 15 years, I have been a teaching artist at multiple programs and venues. Finally, five years ago I opened my own art studio for children, Canvas and Crayon. My curriculum, developed through many years of work, is a unique blend of teaching both technique and self-expression. I believe in providing my young students with all the knowledge they need to express their own ideas. Every year my students bring me joy and satisfaction as they grow and their skills develop. I also treasure the development of community as students work alongside one another and get to meet peers with similar interests and talents.
