In this one time party we will celebrate Kwanzaa. We'll highlight the 7 principles with drumming, dancing, conversation, and a scavenger hunt.

Beginner - Advanced Level
Kwanzaa is a holiday celebrated by some people in the African Diaspora. Kwanzaa was created by Dr. Maulana Karenga, to highlight 7 key principals that are important to our community. This party will help us celebrate Kwanzaa and will provide an introductory understanding and commemoration of the holiday. Children will hear songs, dance, drum, and play a game helping to reinforce the concepts that they will learn during the party. 

Party Outline:
Introductions
Game - Kwanzaa Scavenger Hunt
Drumming - Instrumental Song (Children can bring drums and instruments to play along with me, hand made instruments are welcome as well!) 

The 7 key principals of Kwanzaa are:
*Umoja (Unity)
*Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
*Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)
*Ujamaa (Cooperative economics)
*Nia (Purpose)
*Kuumba (Creativity)
*Imani (Faith)

This party will introduce learners to the key elements of Kwanzaa in a fun, engaging way.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Please make sure that children have enough safe space to move around and dance. Parents will need to "hide" scavenger hunt pictures before the party so students can find them during the game. Scavenger hunt items have been sent will welcome email.
