Week 1Lesson 1Welcome, Intro to Kumihimo, Jellyfish BraceletWelcome to Kumihimo Camp! In this lesson, we will learn about kumihimo, make our first kumihimo disk, and learn our first kumihimo bracelet pattern, the jellyfish, with 7 strings.Lesson 22-Colour Spiral BraceletIn this lesson, we will start by making another kumihimo disk that we will use for the rest of the week. Our pattern for the day is a 2-colour spiral bracelet.Lesson 3Hearts BraceletIn this lesson, we will make the hearts bracelet pattern.Lesson 4Flower BraceletWe are stepping it up a bit in this lesson, with the flower bracelet.Lesson 54-Colour Spiral BraceletTo cap off the camp, we will build upon the 2-colour spiral bracelet, with a 4-colour spiral bracelet pattern.
- Learners will discover the history of Japanese kumihimo.
- Learners will develop their kumihimo braiding skills while making 5 bracelets.
- Learners will use problem-solving skills to solve mistakes when making their kumihimo bracelets.

Frequency: 3-6 throughout the classFeedback: as neededDetails: Learners will be expected to finish making their bracelets after every class meeting. The first five minutes of the next class will be for those learners who want to share their finished bracelets from the previous class. Each kumihimo bracelet in this camp typically take between 1-3 hours to complete.Assessment
Frequency: 7 or more throughout the classDetails: I will be watching the learners throughout the class. I will offer assistance, positive encouragement, and helpful feedback as they work on their bracelets.
The bracelets in this camp are scaffolded and build in complexity throughout the week. This camp is intended for beginners and no previous experience is required.
Learners will require these materials for this class: - embroidery floss (minimum of 4 colours, but more colours will make the bracelets different) - scissors - light coloured cardboard or thick card stock - plate or other circular object that be traced around (approx 4-5" in diameter) - pencil and thin marker (any colour) - tape measure or ruler - 1 binder clip - paper clip (optional)
Learners will use scissors in this class.
