Class Experience

"Long long ago, when tigers used to be smoking..." Oh, you're here! The story just started. This is how we start traditional stories in Korea! Do you want to join the Korean story? It's going to be so much fun and you'll learn lots of things as well. Do you know how to read the Korean characters Hangul? That's going to be so helpful if you help us reading, but no worries if you don't know how to read yet--I will help you, so let's study together.

This class is taught by Teacher Juli and Teacher Yonghi. Our teachers are native Korean speaker who currently live in the US. They have experience teaching Korean language to both Korean native students and non-native students!

Weekday sections available here: https://outschool.com/classes/korean-immersion-class-weekday-korean-story-time-with-a-native-speaker-5-7-j2bjyhQy

We're going to work with the slides BE Education provides. We're going to read a story together and study the Korean characters and the Korean language through it every week. Here are some stories we're going to work on!

Week of Feb 6 : 흥부와 놀부 Heungbu and Nolbu - A story about brothers. There will be monsters and gold in the story!
Week of Feb 13 : 해와 달이 된 오누이 A brother and a sister who became the Sun and the Moon - It's an ancient story how the Sun and the Moon are made! There will be a boy, a girl, and a tiger.
Week of Feb 20 : 단군 신화 Dangun mythology - This is about how Korea has been founded. There will be a bear and a tiger here.
Week of Feb 27 : 곶감과 호랑이 A gotgam(dried persimmon) and a tiger - This is a story about a gotgam and a tiger, obviously!
Week of Mar 6 : 은혜 갚은 꿩 A pheasant which returned the favor - It's a story about where I used to live in Korea. There will be a pheasant, a man, and snakes in the story!

We're going to study for 25 minutes every week with a new story, which is completely independent. Just jump in, and you don't need to worry if you missed anything in previous classes. We're going to practice reading, pronunciation and listening while we're reading the stories together. We're going to focus on studying some characters and words There is a class for older students, so please check those if you're interested! This is class doesn't require any background knowledge to take, but it's going to be amazing if you have studied the Korean characters. Feel free to join and let's have a fun time! The teacher will provide worksheets which students can practice writing with and pronunciation files recorded by the native Korean teacher.

Hey guys! I'm Ethan-a science, math and Korean teacher. I was born and lived in South Korea for 28 years, and I'm living in the US now. I am fluent in both English and Korean.

I am available for additional sections and individual tutoring. Please submit schedule requests if there is a time you would like a section listed.

I have a degree in biology from a national university in Korea. I have worked in a biology laboratory for 2 years, and I'm planning to start my Ph.D. in biology in the US! I earned 71 credits in my major including biochemistry, advanced genetics, animal physiology, microbiology, plant system biology, ecology and taxonomy. I won national scholarships for the last 3 years of my course and have worked in the animal physiology laboratory and the plant cellular genetic engineering laboratory. I'm trained to teach laboratory classes for college students, and I have experience teaching various students in science including all levels of biology, chemistry and physics. I want to have a good time with you guys talking about science and sharing the laboratory experience!

I'm also a qualified math teacher. I found the foundational ideas of integrals by myself when I was 4 years old. I have discovered the basic ideas of the law of exponents, logarithm and coordinate plane during my elementary school and started college level math when I was in middle school. I won a dozen of gold medals in national mathematics competitions! I find my joy thinking about math in the world. I recently started driving and thinking about calculus during driving is one big joy of mine now! I have experience teaching students math for more than 10 years now, since I was in middle school. I want to show learners that mathematics is quite a fun thing and it's a language in which the universe is written!

I love having a good time with students studying Korean language and culture. I lived in Korea for 28 years, finished my elementary school, middle school, high school, and 4 years of university education, making a perfect score in every Korean test including 3 years of high school education and the Korean SAT. I have experience teaching Korean high schoolers for the Korean section of the Korean SAT, working for the college press and correcting theses for professors. I started to teach non-native students in Korean from the time that I started to hangout with international friends, and later as a professional tutor and instructor. I have understood even more since I started teaching international students and I love it! I have more than 5 years of teaching non-native students now, from 7 years old to high schoolers and adults.

I love all kinds of studies including philosophy, history, literature and art. I think we can see as much as we know, and I want to broaden your horizons of the world! I like to keep my classes discussion based and inquiry led. I try to keep students engaged with hands-on, relevant examples and experiences. I want to get students excited about studying science, math, and Korean. I look forward to seeing your learners in the classroom!
