"Long long ago, when tigers used to be smoking..." Oh, you're here! The story just started. This is how we start traditional stories in Korea! Do you want to join the Korean story? It's going to be so much fun and you'll learn lots of things as well. Do you know how to read the Korean characters Hangul? That's going to be so helpful if you help us reading, but no worries if you don't know how to read yet--I will help you, so let's study together. This class is taught by Teacher Yonghi. Yonghi is a native Korean speaker who currently lives in the US. She has experience teaching Korean language to both Korean native students and non-native students! Weekend sections available here: https://outschool.com/classes/korean-immersion-class-weekend-korean-story-time-with-a-native-speaker-5-7-QR1cQzid We're going to work with the slides BE Education provides. We're going to read a story together and study the Korean characters and the Korean language through it every week. Here are some stories we're going to work on! Week of Feb 27 : 흥부와 놀부 Heungbu and Nolbu - A story about brothers. There will be monsters and gold in the story! Week of Mar 6 : 해와 달이 된 오누이 A brother and a sister who became the Sun and the Moon - It's an ancient story how the Sun and the Moon are made! There will be a boy, a girl, and a tiger. Week of Mar 13 : 곶감과 호랑이 A gotgam(dried persimmon) and a tiger - This is a story about a gotgam and a tiger, obviously! Week of Mar 20 : 은혜 갚은 까치 A magpie which returned the favor - It's a story about where I used to live in Korea. There will be a pheasant, a man, and snakes in the story! Week of Mar 27 : 호랑이 형님 A tiger brother - You met a tiger in a mountain! What should you do? There's a clever man who escaped in a very wise way. Week of Apr 3 : 혹부리 영감 An old man with a lump - There were two old men with a lump. Let's see what they can do with those! Week of Apr 10 : 도깨비 방망이 A Dokkaebi(goblin)'s bat - Have you seen a magical bat? What would happen if you swing a magical bat? Week of Apr 17 : 팥죽 할머니와 호랑이 Patjuk(red bean porridge) grandma and a tiger - A tiger is trying to hurt Patjuk grandma! Let's see how she beats a tiger! Week of Apr 24 : 도깨비 감투 Dokkaebi(goblin)'s cap - There is a magical cap from Dokkaebi. Let's see what we can do with it! We're going to study for 25 minutes every week with a new story, which is completely independent. Just jump in, and you don't need to worry if you missed anything in previous classes. We're going to practice reading, pronunciation and listening while we're reading the stories together. We're going to focus on studying some characters and words. There is a class for older students, so please check those if you're interested! This class doesn't require any background knowledge to take, but it's going to be amazing if you have studied the Korean characters. Feel free to join and let's have a fun time! The teacher will provide worksheets which students can practice writing with and pronunciation files recorded by the native Korean teacher.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the Korean characters Hangul, the Korean language, and Korean culture, while we're studying a fun Korean folk tale!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We're going to work on the fun Korean folk tales. However, since it's a folk tale, the stories can include a little bit of violence like any other folk tales in the world, like a wolf trying to eat three little piggies in western folk tales. We're not going to describe the violence verbally or visually, so don't need to worry about it :)
