Knave Hero Club
Learn to play Knave. A streamline table top adventure game.
What's included
1 live meeting
3 in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This club will teach the mechanics of a streamlined tabletop role playing game called knave. We will also be using the collaborative stories created during the gaming sessions to advance an evolving story led by the instructor. This club is a gameplay club for Knave. Once a student has created a character during the first play session it is theirs. After the first session there will be pre generated characters available for anyone coming into the club later. There will be plenty of characters to accommodate people coming and going during the life of the club. My teaching style is very organic so most of the sessions will be gameplay and discussion. The only requirements for the learners is a desire to learn All of the weeks in this club will follow the same basic format. We will issue characters and recap the following week for anyone who was not present. We will then begin gameplay which will be mostly learner led. All of the sessions will comprise some types of improvisational story telling so a list of topics covered isn’t really available. I can however send a recap to all parents and players on the day after the club session. This club is for gameplay. The game will be continuous and ongoing. There is no required knowledge and anyone who is unavailable for a game will be able to pick up where they left off the next time they can attend.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn to play or advance their knowledge of table top RPGs while at the same time sharpening their abilities in improvisational story telling.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Table top role playing games contain fantasy, magic, and violence. The game experience will change based on the learners in the class. I will monitor class discussion but language and speech are inherently difficult to control. If a learner causes disruption to class in any way they will be asked to leave.
Supply List
Players must posses a copy of the knave 2e rulebook in physical or PDF format. Pencils and paper are the only other things required. https://shop.swordfishislands.com/knave-2e/
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Academy Of Art University
My experience playing role playing games goes all the way back to 1997 and several iterations of games have come and gone since then. I have played these games for most of my adult life, I enjoy the idea of groups creating their adventures as they go and I think that can be used to help motivate artists and creatives.
I graduated in Spring 2021 with a BFA in art education and I am passionate about this game as well as its potential to lead students to arts and passion.
