What's included

45 live meetings
22 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. About 15 minutes an afternoon or evening it is important for the student to review phonogram sounds and spelling words with parents. Flashcards and spelling lists will be provided. This process allows the parents to be kept in the loop and abreast of what the student is learning.
Assessment
Each week the student will be assessed to see if the student is comprehending the sounds of each of the letters. Later in the lessons the students will also be having spelling tests of the five new words that they learn beginning week 6.
Grading
A grade will only be given of P for Pass, which means they have accomplished the sounds of all of the letters. If a student is struggling I will visit with the parents so the parent and teacher can guide the student to confidence in reading, writing, and spelling.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
The students will engage in a hands-on fun activity that will help them learn the single letters names and the phonics sounds as well as the two, three, and four letter phonogram sounds for in the Spalding Writing Road to Reading Phonics Method. The teacher will guide each student to memorize the sounds of the letters as well as extend their learning by using the sounds they are learning to create words and read words.

Students will first learn the sound or sounds of the letter and then roll the modeling clay or play dough out and construct the letter shape following the outline on the mat provided by the teacher. The teacher will then introduce each of the vocabulary words on the letter page to practice pronouncing the sound in each word. On the mat there is also a picture for each of the vocabulary words which will help the student identify and pronounce the words.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Oklahoma Baptist University
I have significant experience teaching both elementary age children and teenagers. After receiving my teaching degree in Elementary Education I taught second grade in a brick and mortar classroom for 7 years. When I started my family I chose to quit teaching, but I was able to continue tutoring local students. When my children reached school age our family became a homeschool family. As a homeschool mom I have taught not only my children, but I have taught in local Co-op's. While teaching at home and in the Co-ops I created my own curriculum and also used a purchased curriculum. I tried to teach my classes in a way that would meet the academic objectives for each student, but also be interactive and fun. I have my TESOL and am confident in teaching in an online classroom as I have taught over 6800 online English as a Second Language classes to children 3-18. Another area of expertise I have is 35mm and digital photography and how to correctly preserve all of our photographs in proper scrapbooks with safe products for future generations. In this day and age most photos don't make it off of a person's phone, let alone into a scrapbook where people can actually enjoy and remember moments in their lives. As a homeschool teacher I facilitated students for 7 years in a yearbook class to create a digital yearbook for their peers and taught hundreds of women in gatherings around the country to preserve their pictures by properly placing them in safe albums using photo safe products. Based on my experience and my passion to teach, I am confident in my abilities to create a classroom environment that is inviting, educational, fun, and interactive, whether I have one student or multiple students. I am looking forward to meeting your student and helping them engage in a class that will guide them in learning new skills, as well as build confidence and facilitate independent learning.
