In this fun and creative class, I will teach students ways to show kindness to others and ways to handle bullying. Topics that will be covered are character traits in texts, comparing and contrasting characters, events, and themes, and ways to handle bullying. The class will be structured as follows: Class 1- Read "How Full is Your Bucket"-Discuss kindness, character traits, and themes; complete in-class activities on being kind how to make others happy. We will write notes in class and put them in the "bucket" to make someone's day brighter. Class 2-Read "Bullies Never Win"- Discuss and share "No Bullying"strategies with the class; complete in-class activities. Class 3-Read "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon"- Discuss the plot, character development, and theme; complete in-class activities. We will decorate and share Kindness Rocks. After class 2, students can paint or color medium sized rocks. This should be background colors or designs. That way they are dry and ready for the next class. During class 3, we will write inspiring quotes or sayings on our kindness rocks. We will share these rocks with the class. This will be so much FUN! I will use slides throughout the class as discussion points and for motivation. I will also read the books to the class. Students should have their own copy of the book to follow along. My teaching style is engaging, fun, and interactive. I highly encourage learners to participate and engage in discussions. Learners will interact with each other through discussions, questioning, and feedback. No experience or knowledge is required.
