Informal assessment will take place during the course.Class Experience
In this fun and interactive ongoing course, students will learn Fry's first 100 sight words taught in kindergarten. Learning these words is crucial to early reading skills because these words are often words that cannot be sounded out and must be read by sight. Each class meeting, students will be introduced to 4-5 new sight words. Students may already be familiar with some of the words in the list for the class, but it is beneficial to continue practicing identifying and using sight words multiple times to increase reading fluency when those words are found in text. Through games, PowerPoints, songs, poems/chants and other strategies, students will be engaged in learning to read and write sight words from the Fry first 100 sight word list. Because this class is very interactive, I will always encourage students to participate in class. Often, I will provide handouts through the classroom tab that students can use for practice at home, but not required for class. This is a great class for students who are about to start kindergarten, are currently in kindergarten or for those who need review. So, join me on this journey to becoming effective readers by learning important sight words we often find in text!
