Kindergarten Reading Readiness

In this on-going course students will come to class singing our daily welcome song. We will focus on letters, Phonological Awareness, Numbers, Counting, Colors, Shapes, Days of the week, Months of the year and writing.

Homework
Learners may be asked to bring objects or small assignments to the next class to share to keep up with what we are learning. The assignment would never be more than one page and done with a parent.
Assessment
Upon Request the Teacher may perform evaluations/assessments to see what the student knows.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
During each class we sing our welcome song, days of the week and months of the year. We will have a focus each week on a letter names, letter sound and letter formation. There  may be props such as puppets and a flannel board to incorporate interactive learning. Students will be engaged by playful lessons that will focus on phonemic awareness, phonological awareness and letter writing. The students will  learn letter and name writing and will be given worksheets and interactive lessons to help the students stay engaged. Students do not need any experience, just come to have fun. At the end of each class there will be a read along and show and tell as well as a goodbye song.

Week 1  Date 12/6-12/10/23 Topic: Letter Aa and Tt, the sounds and how to wrote them, teach days of the week song, months of the year.
Week 2 Date 12/14-12/17/23 Topic Letter Mm and Nn, the letter sounds and how to write them can you find something at home that begins with Letter M?
Week 3:  Date 12/20-12/24/23Topic Letter Oo and Ii letter sound and how to write them.
Week 4: Date 12/27/23-1/1/24 Letter Bb and Cc the letter sounds and how to write them, story time.

Learning Goals

Students will learn skills for school readiness for kindergarten. They will learn letters and the letter sounds, sight words. Students will be able to count by counting objects and learn number recognition. Students will be able to think critically by being asked questions to help them build inquiry and become problem solvers.

Supply List
Bring Paper, Crayons, Pencil, dry erase marker, dry erase board or sleeve, dry eraser or old sock.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello my name is Shana Gaither! My students call me Ms. Shana. I have a Masters in Art and Teaching in Early Childhood Education.   I work currently in a school as a kindergarten teacher and have worked as a preschool teacher ages 3-5 years old and  with children with special needs and up to 3rd grade.  I have eleven years of working with children.  I value the importance of play through teaching!
