Class Experience

Get your student READY for kindergarten. I am a former kindergarten teacher with over 10 years of experience in the classroom. I believe that playing is learning, learning can be fun, and positive reinforcement works like MAGIC with young children. I will be using the online platform to teach as I did in the regular classroom. We will have CIRCLE TIME where we talk about the day, date, and weather. We will sing songs and introduce ourselves during CIRCLE TIME. I will teach your child using interactive techniques, group discussions and when appropriate, effective handouts.

Over the course of this class we will cover many of the skills and experiences that most kindergarten teachers like and expect to see in the classroom. Some of the areas covered will be: Identifying sounds and letters independently. Blending sounds. Identifying common sight words. Listening to a story without interrupting and being able to make predictions and answer questions about a story. Counting. Identifying shapes. Writing name correctly using uppercase and lowercase letters. Rhyming words. Classifying objects using size, shape and quantity.

This class will be all about interaction. We will play games related to the curriculum. We will work together as a group and also have opportunities to BE THE SHOW when we share our work. All that is required from your child is a willingness to have fun, take turns and be a part of our great class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
HI!!
I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and a current Ohio Educational License. I taught kindergarten for 10 years. I co-wrote many different curriculums while teaching kindergarten - language arts, math, social studies, science. In my classroom, we learned through many different modalities. My approach to teaching is wholistic. In other words, the whole picture or concept first, broken down into tiny bites. When concepts are presented in many different ways, many different learners benefit. Not all learners learn or digest information the same way. I excel at being able to assess learning styles and adapt to what works best for each individual learner.
I was an art major before switching to education. I LOVE to draw. I also worked as a personal chef. I made meals for clients and their families. I LOVE to cook. In my brick and mortar classroom, there was always a cooking and art activity for EVERY SINGLE topic and theme we covered. I had weekly recipes and art projects that my students completed. Those 2 centers were always the most popular with my students.
I know and believe children learn through play, interaction and positive reinforcement. We can have fun and learn at the same time! I am a nurturing and patient teacher. When I was in the classroom, I was one of the "Warm & Fuzzy" teachers. I have and enforce classroom rules but I am able to do so without losing the softness that an early childhood educator must have.
For the past 4 years I have worked exclusively as an online teacher. I am comfortable with the platform and have experience with all the technical aspects of this operating system. Thanks to both my brick and mortar and online experience, I have TONS of resources and methods to bring out the best in any learner.
I am married and I have 3 children. I have a Golden Retriever, who is often my teaching buddy. My favorite things to do are travel, cook and work in my garden. I hope we can work together soon.
