In this ongoing class, students will learn, and practice kindergarten and early first grade reading and writing skills.  Students will review phonic sounds (including vowel sounds) for each letter and learn word families (creating word family booklets).  Students will work on beginning, middle, and ending sounds of words.  Students will learn to read and write sight words, and build short sentences, learning capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure.  They will listen to stories, learning the parts of a book, and retelling (characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end).  They will also work on writing skills (short sentences, labeling, listing, and more).  Students will learn through books, flannel board stories, lessons, songs, and hands on activities.  Students will build sight words with playdoh.  They will make word family booklets.  They will also listen and participate in lessons (answering as a group and individually) and completing activity sheets.
