Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(792)
We will use M&M's to work on one-to-one object counting.
Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten
This class is for learners who are learning to count and specifically one-to-one object counting skills. We will count objects up to 12. I will use the fun book "The M&M's Counting Book" by Barbara Barbieri McGrath to guide our lesson. We will count up to 12 and not only rote, but work on actually touching an object and using the more advanced skill of one-on-one object counting. Not only will we work on counting, the learner will have to sort the objects by colors. We will arrange the...
I have a master's degree in the art of teaching and was a full time kindergarten teacher. Rote counting (counting out loud without objects) is one of the most basic math skills that a child can learn. Many times when a child is forced to count objects this task becomes much more advanced. Learners will frequently count too fast and miss an object or count an object twice. Practicing this skill and working on actually moving the object will help your learner to not make simple mistakes. Many different skills/topics will be covered in this lesson and the m&m's just make it fun :)
Colored objects will be needed. The specific color and exact number of each are required. 1 - blue 2 - green 3 - orange 4 - yellow 5 - red 6 - brown I will use m&m's, but this is not required. You can use another colored candy, object (colored blocks or counters) or even cut out colored pieces of paper.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Depending on your learner's skills, they might need assistance counting/sorting/arranging the objects.
