Please contact me if you would like to have an assessment class before enrolling in this class. Building a solid reading foundation is important for the future of all learners. This class will follow The Science of Reading Approach. This approach has helped improve the reading skills of all of my learners. The learners should be ready for first-grade reading after completing this class. This class will meet twice a week. We will concentrate on one phonics sound each week. All learners will practice the phonics skill of the week by reading a few new words. Then they will learn a few words that they may not have learned how to decode yet. These words help make the story that they are reading better. Then the learners will take turns reading part of the story. All learners will be asked comprehension questions as we read the story. These may include a summary, what happened, characters, and predictions. If there is time after completing the story, the learners will practice spelling the words and writing them in sentences. All books were written by the teacher. Learners should know all the letter sounds and be ready to blend them together to read words before joining this class. You may join the class at any time. If your learner is not ready for this class, please check out my Kindergarten Full-Year Reading Class. I am also offering animal stories for each level.
