US Grade Kindergarten
This class will cover basic skills to prepare students to start Kindergarten including literacy, math, cognitive, and fine motor skills. This class will be teacher-led, but it will be highly interactive with lots of movement, discussion questions and hands-on work during each lesson. Students should a have some knowledge of the alphabet, numbers and shapes as this class is mostly a review of basic skills learned in preschool and practice for Kindergarten. Each class will have 4 components that are essential to kindergarten readiness: literacy, math, cognitive, and fine motor. Week 1: Math- Numbers, Graphing, Sorting Literacy- Book and discussion, Alphabet (A, B, C, D, E, F, G), Syllables Cognitive- following directions, Fine Motor- Self-Portrait, Directed Drawing Week 2: Math- Numbers, Graphing, Shapes Literacy- Book and discussion, Alphabet (H, I, J, K, L, M, N), Syllables Cognitive- following directions, Classifying Fine Motor- Directed Drawing and Writing Week 3: Math- Numbers, Graphing, Patterns Literacy- Book and discussion, Alphabet (O, P, Q, R, S, T, U), Rhyming Cognitive- following directions, Classifying Fine Motor- Directed Drawing and Cutting Week 4: Math- Numbers, Graphing, Measurement Literacy- Book and discussion, Alphabet (V, W, X, Y, Z), Rhyming Cognitive- Problem Solving Fine Motor- Directed Drawing and Cutting
Learning Goals
Students will gain literacy skills: listening to stories and answering questions, alphabet knowledge, and phonological awareness; math skills: counting, shapes, patterns, graphing, and measurement; cognitive skills; following multi-step directions and classification; and fine motor skills: writing and cutting.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students will be given activities that involve scissors. It is recommended that these activities are supervised.
Students will be directed to watch videos via a direct YouTube link. Please be advised that while these videos are created by me, it is a third-party source.
Supply List
Paper, pencil, and child-friendly scissors Some weeks will have additional activities that may require items to sort: legos, cereal, erasers, or other items that are different colors and shapes will work.
