Your student will review high frequency words, read easy stories designed for beginning readers and start to compose and read their own sentences. The primary focus for this class is high frequency words and word families. Each day we will review HFW and rhyming words in a variety of ways to accommodate different learning styles. After brief icebreakers, teacher led Q&A, students will practice HFWs for 5-10 minutes, then a story will be introduced and students will do guided reading practice on day one. Strategies for identifying words and learning content will be introduced and practiced. this will take place for about 10 minutes. The students will repeat a good bye rhyme to conclude the class. 1-2 minutes The class will be interactive with teacher led participation. Students will be expected to annotate or draw on the shared screen so please be prepared to have your child use this Zoom feature for identification, matching and writing. I am patient, understanding and enjoy adapting to learners. I keep things interactive and relatable. I understand 4-6 year olds are wiggly, curious, excited, and even sometimes grumpy. They cannot always control their emotions. I am strict about rules, and believe kids want to follow rules, when reminded without shame and derision. Students are asked to remain on camera, so the teacher can monitor engagement and see when a child "looks lost". Adults are asked to be present nearby for their child, to assist if needed. I've found most misbehavior occurs when kids cannot get their technology to work, or they do not have the required materials for participation. Children enjoy the sense of independence they get when they are alone on-screen, even when they need mom or dad nearby!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Asbury College (University)
My instructional process draws heavily from the Whole Language approach to reading, phonetic learning and guided reading practices. I believe each of us learns in ways that are unique to our own talents, intuitions, environments, and inclinations and personality. In short, we all learn a bit differently. This is why I use several approaches in my Instructional process. Each child must feel valued and cared for to learn best.
In my long career as an educator I have seen students flourish and learn under one teacher and not another. Quite often this is due to instructional styles and methods used. I have learned one must be flexible and willing to embrace and use what ever method reaches the individual child.
I hold BS in Elementary and Early Childhood education (K-9) from Asbury University. I have completed some graduate studies in Early Childhood Special Education and have a Certificate in Infant Toddler Studies from PITC Institute in California.
I am semi-retired and doing what I love best, teaching kids because I want to, not because I have to.
