Kindergarten is where a child begins their foundation of learning and loving to read. Class will begin with a routine calendar time. We will go over the days of the week, months of the year, count the days on the calendar, use the calendar for patterns, and the date. Each child will have their own calendar to practice math skills. We will count by ones and tens using a tens frame and popsicle sticks, counting each day we're in class. Using the number on the tens frame, students will fill in their own tens frame on the calendar. Also, using the same number and their 100 chart; students will fill in one less/one more, ten less/ten more. In this ongoing class, students experience a Full Curriculum of kindergarten leveled learning. Students will review phonic sounds (including vowel sounds) for each letter and learn word families (creating booklets). Students will work on beginning, middle, and ending sounds of words. Students will learn blends and digraphs. Students will learn to read and write sight words and build short sentences, learning capitalization and punctuation. They will listen to stories, learning the parts of a book, and retelling (characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end). They will also work on writing skills (short sentences, labeling, listing, and more). Students will also learn counting, numbers to 100, place value, tens frame, money, addition, subtraction, graphing, and so much more. Students will learn through morning circle time meetings with calendar time, books, flannel board stories, lessons, songs, and hands on activities. We will also incorporate monthly themes in our learning. ***Students will learn and practice showing numbers to 30 using a tens frame, tens blocks, number line, tallies, and place value. We will also incorporate science and social studies into our learning. For example: weather, making paint, mixing colors, magnets, maps, community helpers, etc. Weekly Schedule: 1.
