What's included

6 live meetings
3 in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Once a week homework is optional, but strongly recommended for those that want their child to have more practice of the week's concepts and will include a wordlist and short decodable stories.
Assessment
On the sixth class, we will have a review day where students will work on review activities in a Zoom breakout room, while I assess students' mastery of the material for the class one on one. Your child must be present for week six in order to receive the progress report. I will then write up a progress report within 48 hours of that class. The progress report will include your child's mastery of the unit's material as well as suggested next steps for your student.
Letter Grade
A letter grade will be provided at the end of the class if all six units have been completed.
Progress Report
See above assessment section.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner - Advanced Level
What will be taught/topics covered?

This is the 2nd of six, six-week classes.
In this six-week class, learners will be taught how to read short vowel words and short stories. They will also work on the prereading skills of first sound fluency, phonemic segmentation fluency, and spelling three letter words with short vowels.

This is a beginner class for 2nd graders that are struggling to learn how to read.
This is an intermediate class for 1st graders that are learning how to read.
This is an advanced class for kindergarteners that are wanting a challenge.

How is my class structured?

This class is structured for homeschool families that want some support teaching their child how to read. It would also be a great extra practice for those in public, private or charter schools.

How will I teach/what's my teaching style?

My teaching style is direct instruction. This means I will introduce the activity and model it before having the learners perform the activity on their own.

How much will learners get to interact with me?

The class is structured for active participation through small class size (max 6 learners), games, call and response, and slideshow presentations.
Learning Goals
Students will read short vowel words and short stories with the vowels (a, e, i, o and u).
When given a word, students will be able to identify the first sound.
When given a word with two or three sounds, students will segment it into its sounds.
When given picture of a word with three sounds, students will be able to spell that word with support and prompting.
